Donald Trump was ordered on Friday to testify under oath and provide documentation regarding the protest that happened at the Capitol January 6, 2021. The subpoena demanded the documents by November 4 and he needed to appear for deposition testimony November 14. Deposition testimony is often closed-door, video taped and can be made public. A lot of documents are being asked for.
Trump is accused
The committee’s letter to Trump said, “As demonstrated in our hearings, we have assembled overwhelming evidence, including from dozens of your former appointees and staff, that you personally orchestrated and oversaw a multi-part effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election and to obstruct the peaceful transition of power.”
He spoke with a lot of people and communications to prove that are being requested. Among associates, former aides and lawmakers involved there is also Oath Keepers and Proud Boys, Roger Stone, Steve Bannon, Michael Flynn and Rudy Giuliani.
In support of Trump
Any and all information relating to travel to the Capitol and efforts to delay or prevent the peaceful transition of power are wanted. Information on states that would have an alternate slate of electors that would have chosen Trump are wanted as well.
He thinks the whole thing is ridiculous and refers to the committee as the “unselect” committee. He’s been the constant recipient of unfair political attacks and their refusal to investigate any potential voting fraud. He’s not likely to cooperate.
Run out the clock
That committee’s mandate will likely end next year if Republicans win back control. Everything is pointing to that happening.
Thousands of Trump supporters converged on the Capitol January 6, 2021 after he gave a fiery speech about widespread election fraud. Five people died either at the protest or shortly after and over 140 police officers were injured.
