Russian forces have officially left Snake Island in the Black Sea, which provided Ukraine a huge victory that will ease Russia’s blockage on Ukrainian ports.
Head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s office, Andriy Yermak posted on Twitter, “KABOOM! No Russian troops on the Snake Island anymore. Our Armed Forces did a great job,” with an attached picture of smoke rising from an outpost originally taken by Russia in the earlier stages of the invasion.

The Russian Defense Ministry later confirmed their withdrawal from the island, which they had been utilizing to supply forces with missiles and radar systems. The withdrawal came as a result of soldiers completing all their assigned tasks.
Snake Island is about 35 kilometers (22 miles) off the Ukrainian shoreline, and within the range of the missile, artillery, and drone strikes from the land.
Boris Johnson applauded Ukraine for their “extraordinary ability to fight back, overcome adversity, and to reject the Russians,” calling the recapture of the island “proof of that ability.”
“In the end, it will prove impossible for Putin to hold down a country that will not accept his rule,” Johnson told a news conference at the NATO summit in Madrid.
At the start, defenders of the island had told Russian forces asking them to surrender to “go f**k yourself,” which began a meme that became a symbol of Ukrainian resistance.
It was after that point that Russian forces bombed the island, where the soldier who sent the message survived, however it’s unknown how many others perished.
The Moskva, the command and control ship for Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, later sank due to an attack by the Ukrainians, according to Kiev.
