Texas Governor Greg Abbott is listening to his constituents who don’t have the resources to deal with the suddenly open border coming the end of May. If the Biden administration is going to refuse resources and allow the state to be overrun, Abbott is going to send illegal immigrants to those who apparently want and can deal with them. It’s working. Certain communities have stopped receiving immigrants.

Don’t mess with Texas

The phrase still applies today. The White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki attacked Abbott but he’s steadfast. She didn’t think he had the authority.

Peter Doocy from Fox asked Psaki, “Now that the Texas governor has said that he would begin busing border crossers to Washington, D.C., are you going to assist them in finding a place to stay and something to do when they arrive? She responded, “Well, I’m not sure what power the governor would have to do something like that. This is clearly a PR effort, in my opinion. His own office agrees that a migrant must agree to be moved freely, and that he cannot force them to do so. Because, once again, the federal government, not a state, is responsible for enforcing our country’s immigration laws.”

Texas is asking them

Abbott isn’t forcing immigrants to board a bus. He’ll be asking for consent. Doocy thought maybe the immigrants might like to see the Capitol of this nation, “You don’t believe people want to go to Washington, D.C.?” An unhappy Psaki responded, “Well, listen, I don’t know, but I do know that the governor of Texas, or any state for that matter, does not have the legal jurisdiction to force somebody to board a bus.”

The buses are already on the move. Seth Christensen is the Texas Division of Emergency Management’s Chief of media and communications.

“TDEM has dispatched buses to areas where communities have expressed concerns about the federal government dropping off migrants in the last 24 hours and has the capability to send as many as is necessary to fulfill the requests from mayors and county judges. A large majority of the communities that originally reached out for support through this operation, from the [Rio Grande Valley] to Terrell County, have now said that the federal government has stopped dropping migrants in their towns since the governor’s announcement on Wednesday. Each bus has the capacity and supplies necessary to transport up to 40 migrants.”

Texas is bracing for the end of Title 42

The Governor is putting a number of measures in place to deal with the expected flood of people crossing into the United States. Since the administration is letting Title 42 lapse, this needs to be done.  Abbott declared,

“With the Biden administration discontinuing Title 42 expulsions in May, Texas will take unprecedented steps this month to do what no state in America has ever done in the history of the country to better defend our state and our country. To assist local officials whose areas are being overrun by hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration, Texas is providing charter buses to transport these illegal immigrants to Washington, D.C. We’re sending them to the White House, where the Biden administration will be able to respond more quickly to the needs of the folks they’re permitting to enter our border.”

Texas is doing what it has to do

Regardless of an election season. Some thought it was a political gimmick. The Texas Civil Rights Project whined in a tweet, “He’s squandering taxpayer cash on a campaign technique to dehumanize immigrants.”

Abbott continued, “What better spot for them to visit than the United States Capitol’s steps? They not only get to view the beautiful Capitol, but they also get to meet the politicians who are enacting rules that encourage people to cross the border illegally.” So far, according to Texas Division of Emergency Management Chief Nim Kidd, 900 buses are ready. When Title 42 expires, the border expects to process 18,000 people per day.
