Since I can remember, Democrats have been dangling reparations for black Americans as bait.
A reparations committee was finally formed in California.
It announced its recommendation.
I am sure they all expected Governor Newsom to gladly endorse the plan, but he was a bit hesitant, to say the least.
The Plan
The committee has come up with a dollar amount per day that it attached to wrongs it perceives have happened to black Californians.
For instance, if you lived in California between 1930 and 1970, you would receive $3,366 per day for discrimination.
Between 1970 and 2020, you would receive $2,352 per day for over-policing.
If you checked all the boxes in all the categories and maxed them out, you would be getting a check for $1.2 million from the state.
Rather than endorse the plan, Newsom stated, “The Reparations Task Force’s independent findings and recommendations are a milestone in our bipartisan effort to advance justice and promote healing.
“This has been an important process, and we should continue to work as a nation to reconcile our original sin of slavery and understand how that history has shaped our country.
“Dealing with that legacy is about much more than cash payments.
“Many of the recommendations put forward by the Task Force are critical action items we’ve already been hard at work addressing: breaking down barriers to vote, bolstering resources to address hate, enacting sweeping law enforcement and justice reforms to build trust and safety, strengthening economic mobility — all while investing billions to root out disparities and improve equity in housing, education, healthcare, and well beyond. This work must continue.”
Newsom concluded, “Following the Task Force’s submission of its final report this summer, I look forward to a continued partnership with the Legislature to advance systemic changes that ensure an inclusive and equitable future for all Californians.”
James Gallagher, California Assembly Republican Leader, responded, “This has been a fool’s errand from the start.
“Democrats have promised the world with this reparations task force, and now the massive taxpayer bill is coming due.
“Newsom has painted himself into a corner, and he’ll have to choose between signing off on a ridiculous policy that will bankrupt the state or admitting once and for all that this task force was nothing more than a political stunt.”
If I were voting on this, I would vote “yes” just to force Newsom’s hand.
They have been playing this game for decades, so make them put up or shut up.
This is a no lose situation for conservatives because if Newsom backs out, it proves they are all full of sh** and always have been.
If he signs off on it, California goes broke and it ends his career. Since I do not live in California, I could care less what happens to that state if they want to put such an idiotic plan in place.
