Trudeau Blinks, HUGE Trump Win

The tariffs got his attention, bringing him to the table under the terms Trump wanted. At first Trudeau talked tough, threatening retaliatory tariffs. But Trump wants trafficking addressed and a secure northern border. Trudeau also had initially warned Americans they faced higher prices if Trump applied his threats. Once he blinked, Trump acknowledged his willingness to deal on Truth Social.

Trudeau is liberal

He blustered at first. Once he realized the enormous economic impact of Canadian businesses leaving, he had to bend. What Trump was proposing makes sense.

Trudeau posted on social media, “I just had a good call with President Trump. Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl.”

Trudeau mindful of his border

He’s suddenly sending 10,000 frontline personnel to the border and will be appointing a Fentanyl Czar. He has also designated drug cartels as terrorists to try to crack down on that. The border will be under continuous watch and he’s open to putting together a US-Canadian Strike Force to “combat organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering.”

He’s putting his money where his mouth is in more than one way. “I have also signed a new intelligence directive on organized crime and fentanyl and we will be backing it with $200 million.”

Trudeau threatened retaliatory tariffs

But Trump knows the art of the deal. Trudeau had promised if Trump applied the tariffs, “whether it be back on Jan. 20th, on Feb. 1st or Feb. 15th as a Valentines Day present, or on April 1st or whenever” the retaliatory tariffs would happen and “prices for American consumers on just about everything will go up.”

Trump made sure to mention Trudeau’s promises when he praised the prime minister online.

“Canada has agreed to ensure we have a secure Northern Border, and to finally end the deadly scourge of drugs like Fentanyl that have been pouring into our Country, killing hundreds of thousands of Americans, while destroying their families and communities all across our Country. As President, it is my responsibility to ensure the safety of ALL Americans, and I am doing just that. I am very pleased with this initial outcome, and the Tariffs announced on Saturday will be paused for a 30 day period to see whether or not a final Economic deal with Canada can be structured. FAIRNESS FOR ALL!”
