House Republicans are doing their best to try to keep Steve Bannon out of jail.
The clock is ticking for Bannon, as he only has until July 1 to report to prison.
So, in a last-ditch effort to save him, the GOP presented an amicus brief to nullify Pelosi’s January 6 Select Committee.
It Was Not Legitimate
The brief was being filed by the Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group (BLAG), the House’s internal legal body.
The vote from the group came down along party lines, 3-2 in favor.
The members who supported the release of the brief, stated, “The Bipartisan Legal Advisory Group voted 3-2 to file a brief with the D.C. Circuit in the case against Steve Bannon.
“The amicus brief will be submitted after Bannon files a petition for rehearing en banc and will be in support of neither party.
“It will withdraw certain arguments made by the House earlier in the litigation about the organization of the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the U.S. Capitol during the prior Congress.
“House Republican Leadership continues to believe Speaker Pelosi abused her authority when organizing the Select Committee.”
I am not sure this will work, especially with time running out, but Bannon did appreciate the effort by Republicans.
If the effort fails, Bannon will report on July 1 to a low-security facility in Connecticut, where he will have to serve four months for contempt of Congress.
This means his role as a Trump campaign adviser will end, as he will not get out of jail until days before the election.
However, something tells me that even prison will not be able to silence Bannon.
