Growing up in Michigan like I did, I always found it kind of interesting that Madonna grew up in the same town that my grandparents lived in.
Here the whole time, I was being taken out to eat at places she likely ate at when she was the same age. It was as I got older, and lived in that same town that whenever the subject of Madonna came up people would get a sour expression on their faces.
Let me put it to you this way, there are not exactly going to be any statues of her in the town she grew up in, likely not any schools named after her.
It all stems from an interview she gave on a talk show once after she got famous where the host of the show asked her about where she grew up. She spent several minutes ripping the town a new one.
I can tell you from experience that while the town isn’t exactly the most happening place in the world, it certainly isn’t a bad place to live and grow up.
In short, Madonna took an unwarranted shot at a town that gave her a start in life.
She’s one of those people that at the end of the day just doesn’t pay attention to the world around her.
I would think that if you asked Madonna how much a gallon of milk was, she would look at you like you had three heads.
Which brings me to something that happened at a concert of hers recently. Despite her prime performing days being well in the rearview mirror, she still draws a healthy amount of folks to her concerts.
At one particular concert, she was telling people in a certain section to stand up and dance during a portion of the show.
It was at this point that she noticed one of the people attending the concert was not standing. This person was sitting down and showed no signs of getting up.

She then proceeded to draw the attention of the entire crowd in attendance to this person, effectively berating them and shaming them because they weren’t standing up. It was at this point that she realized she had put her foot in her mouth. The fan was in a wheelchair.
Admittedly, she began apologizing immediately. However, the fact remains that people who are performing need to realize that people who paid to see a show are there to watch a show; not be unpaid performers. If I paid my money and didn’t feel like standing that day, it’s my prerogative whether I stay seated or not.
It’s little things like this that a person like Madonna has forgotten.
