There is a bit of a dustup in the state of Wisconsin.
State Supreme Court Justice Janet Protasiewicz, who was just elected to the bench, has had a complaint filed against her campaign that could wind up removing her from the bench.
The filing claims massive fraud during her campaign to flip the court.
Big Deal
The election of Protasiewicz has the potential to flip this battleground state blue.
Protasiewicz openly stated that she thought the current maps were rigged for the GOP, so if a gerrymandering case goes before the court, we know where she will land.
Her vote is now the swing vote, so the GOP could wind up getting crushed.
However, her campaign has been accused of smurfing, which is massive amounts of small donations to exceed campaign limits.
Early results of the investigation are quite damaging to Protasiewicz, showing more than $1 million in funds that were donated to the Janet for Justice Campaign via this method.
One donor had more than 15,000 donations that averaged about $4 each, but he said he never made a donation.
There are more than 200 donor names that match this pattern, mostly elderly, who claim they never made these donations.
Here is the report…
The complaint stated, “The total amount identified to date of illegally laundering money into Janet For Justice’s campaign comes to $1,038,705.93.
“It appears individuals, or those being smurfed, are largely used to aggregate mostly less than the $200 reporting limit of individuals to avoid detection.
We will keep an eye out for this to see how it further develops.
