It’s official… Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) is stepping down.
Romney recently announced that he would not be running for re-election.
Donald Trump could not wait to gush over the announcement after it was made.
On the Attack
When Trump was running for office. Romney fought against him right from the start.
He then tried to get inside Trump’s cabinet, presumably to work from within against Trump.
Yet, Trump still endorsed Romney when he announced he would be running for Senator in Utah in 2018.
It was not long after that, however, that they started to go head-to-head again.
This culminated in Romney voting with Democrats to impeach Trump in the Senate.
On Romney’s retirement, Trump posted, “FANTASTIC NEWS FOR AMERICA,THE GREAT STATE OF UTAH, & FOR THE REPUBLICAN PARTY. MITT ROMNEY, SOMETIMES REFERRED TO AS PIERRE DELECTO, WILL NOT BE SEEKING A SECOND TERM IN THE U.S. SENATE, WHERE HE DID NOT SERVE WITH DISTINCTION.
“A BIG PRIMARY FIGHT AGAINST HIM WAS IN THE OFFING, BUT NOW THAT WILL NOT BE NECESSARY.
“CONGRATS TO ALL. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
In case you were wondering, Pierre Delecto is in reference to a Twitter account for Romney that his son set up for him to follow social media.
