For those of us who grew up in the 1970s, one of the most legendary wrestlers of our time has passed.
Terry Funk passed away at the age of 79.
His death was announced by another legend… Ric Flair.
He’s Gone
When we were kids, we had no idea wrestling was fake.
At that time, most people still thought it was real.
It was not until 1989 that it was confirmed that the matches were staged, but that still does not matter to kids today, who love the sport and the drama.
For those of us who grew up on wrestling and have kids, well, you are more than likely still following the storylines if you have kids that love it.
On the passing of Funk, Flair stated, “In My Entire Life, I’ve Never Met A Guy Who Worked Harder. Terry Funk Was A Great Wrestler, Entertainer, Unbelievably Fearless, And A Great Friend!
“Rest In Peace My Friend.”
Funk also took his shot at acting, having a decent role in “Road House,” a Patrick Swayze movie, as well as a Stallone movie, not to mention a handful of other TV and movie roles.
I still cannot believe that Funk was wrestling well into his 70s.
Rest in peace, Terry, and thanks for the great memories.
