Now we know why President Joe Biden took so long to go to Maui. Over 1,000 people are still missing and 114 confirmed dead from the deadly wildfire. He refused to cut his summer vacation short and his remarks were just as bad in the face of that human tragedy. It’s just another White House embarrassment even as the media tries to portray him as being on top of things. He tried to be relatable.

Biden isn’t there

The president’s remarks could have been done by ChatGPT. There were two and both were brief. He said that

“the country grieves with you, stands with you, and we’ll do everything possible to help you recover, rebuild and respect culture and traditions when the rebuilding takes place. My administration has been in constant contact with the governor and congressional delegation and local leaders. As soon as I got the governor — governor’s request, I signed the master — the major disaster declaration that mobilized the whole-of-government response, which means whatever you need, you’re going to get.”

He should have ended it there. ChatGPT can answer questions where Biden can’t.

Biden made the tragedy about himself

ChatGPT wouldn’t do that. Nor would it attempt at jokes while mourning the unspeakable loss of human life. The bot might be able to pronounce Hawaiian names. Biden definitely couldn’t.

The second set of remarks were done at the Lahaina Civic Center where he tried to relate by saying he once had a small house fire. On the bright side, he at least remembered the island.

Social media was disgusted

One comment was that he was being treated like he was a little kid. Another was that Biden didn’t seem to know what was going on. It’s not just having an installed president that’s the problem. It’s also the multitude of previous poor decisions that contributed to this disaster that made it so bad.

It’s a problem when a president can’t seem to lead in the absence of  influencing by direct action. One can only hope he just didn’t hear that question when he responded, “No comment” and smiled. Remember not to challenge worse. You might think it couldn’t get worse with Biden and it does.
