Grocery stores are one of the most commonly visited places for shoppers, but sadly nowadays they can also be a place where theft is happening more and more.
This scam or plan has been used for years, but recently there’s been an increase in thefts occurring in grocery stores across the nation due to thieves targeting women who carry their purses on them while shopping.
This type of theft is becoming increasingly common as thieves target women because they often keep their wallets in purses rather than pockets – making it easier for someone to steal if left unattended.
The idea behind this scam is simple: the thief distracts the shopper by engaging them in conversation and removes their focus from their cart, while another partner swoops in and steals the purse or wallet that was placed inside.
Inside Edition even went so far as to try out this scam themselves with two people working together, proving just how easy it would be for anyone else to do the same thing.
Although we live in a world filled with different types of scams and thieves, there are ways that we can protect ourselves against these risks – both at grocery stores and other places too.
One of the best tips is to not leave your purse unattended – no matter how tempting it may be.
If possible, try leaving your purse at home if you don’t need anything from it while shopping; if you must bring it along with you, make sure that you keep it close by at all times so that no one else can take advantage.
Additionally, always remain aware of your surroundings when entering a store – especially if someone appears suspicious or acts strangely towards you.
And lastly, never feel obligated to engage in conversation with strangers if something doesn’t seem right; instead alert security immediately about any suspicious activity taking place near you.
