It’s not a surprise that a Biden official is giving out well paying government deals to friends. The surprise is that the media reported it. Normally the media wouldn’t talk about this. The Inspector General is investigating Anne Milgram, the DEA chief, for awarding no-bid contracts to her inner circle. The agreements to the tune of millions of taxpayer dollars far exceed pay for government officials.
The media sees a swamp deal
Milgram is a former New Jersey Attorney general and law professor. She supposedly gave out contracts for “strategic planning and communication” that don’t look right.
Scott Amey, general counsel of the nonpartisan Project on Government Oversight thought, “Some of these deals look very swampy.” Another report is of a $1.4 million payment made to Wilmer Hale to review DEA Operations in order to keep the misconduct and scandals down.
The media reported another deal
That $1.4 million was to U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara who helped lead the review that was in name only. People criticized it for not going deep enough. Bharara is Milgram’s close friend.
An author of this study was retired 87 year old DEA veteran John Lawn who’s knowledge is of 1980 dealings. Lawn oversees a beverage industry group that funded an alcohol research analysis that Milgram’s mother was a part of.
The media mentioned overlooked procedure
The typical government bidding process wasn’t done. The DEA thought “urgency” was required because the “threat of illicit foreign drugs to the health and safety of the American public has never been greater”.
The review took much longer than normal to complete, a year and a half as opposed to just six months. A former DEA official, Matthew Donahue, thought it was “a complete waste of taxpayers’ money.” Donahue has “butted heads” with Milgram before. Donahue said Wilmer Hale’s finished report “was something that could’ve been written in three days.”
