The other day, we reported on how AOC is defending TikTok from being banned in this country.
I have made the case that the if app is going to continue, the wing of the company that serves the United States needs to be under different ownership so the Chinese government cannot randomly pull the data.
AOC thinks it is a bad idea because so many Americans use it, as we have also heard from Rep. Bowman.
Well, a little tidbit that came across our desk makes sense of it all.
The Money Trail
As it turns out, AOC is a policy expert for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
Guess who donated $150,000 to the group?
If you guessed ByteDance, the group that runs TikTok, you would be correct.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the possible Tiktok ban – it just 'doesn't feel right to me'
What also doesn't feel right is
On 12/13/22, Bytedance, Tiktok's parent company, "gave" $150K to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, of which AOC is a prominent member of pic.twitter.com/sQBYOhmytK

AOC did make some good points in her rant.
The biggest being that we need to stop the nonconsensual data harvesting by these companies.
They surely should not be able to sell it, which they are doing, and which is why we all get 100 spam emails every day.
But the real reason AOC wants to keep TikTok alive is the same reason every politician defends something… because that is where the money is coming from.
