Ron DeSantis is handing parents in Florida a pretty big win this week.
DeSantis is signing the Universal School Choice.
This will enable children to go to any school, receiving vouchers from the state for tuition rather than being forced to go to a subpar public school.
My Choice
Teachers’ unions have way too much power in this country right now, and this going to be a big move to break them down.
If public schools are not getting all the money and students, more teachers will start to go to private schools, buckling this union.
If I sound like I have an ax to grind, I do, because I think it was despicable what these unions did during the COVID pandemic and how far the decisions by union heads put our children behind in school.
Corey DeAngelis, a senior fellow at the American Federation for Children, stated, “The dominoes are falling and there’s nothing the power-hungry teachers’ unions can do about it.
“We all owe [American Federation of Teachers president] Randi Weingarten and her union allies a special thank you for overplaying their hand and awakening a sleeping giant: parents who want more of a say in their children’s education.”
Sen. Corey Simon added, “This bill is about access and opportunity for all students and every family in our state. I am thankful and blessed that my mother worked so hard and made many sacrifices to make certain I had the opportunity to attend a good school.
“Not all students are so lucky, but that changes today, and it changes because here in the free state of Florida, we are going to stop funding systems and start funding students.
“We recognize that parents are a child’s first and best teachers.
“A street address or level of income should never replace the vital and irreplaceable role of a parent to decide what academic experience best fits the needs of their child.
“This is a transformational opportunity to make it clear that the money follows the child, and parents have a right to guide their child’s education as they see fit.”
This is a huge win for parents and as we saw in Virginia, it could trigger more people to vote.
Point being, it is exactly the type of win that Ron DeSantis needs to take on the campaign trail with him.
