Since Russia invaded Ukraine, we have been sending weapons to Ukraine at breakneck speed.
Perhaps we have been sending too many weapons if we are reading the signs correctly.
Many now believe that the change of course the United States is taking on this front is a sign that we have drained our stockpiles to dangerously low levels.
Too Much
Secretary Austin hinted that while we will still support the Ukraine war effort, the strategy will change.
Our weapons stockpile was never large to begin with.
With all the high-tech weaponry that has been sent to Ukraine, it would appear that our shelves are now all but bare.
Many believe this country would be in dire shape if there were an attack today.
When Secretary Austing was asked directly about the stockpile impacting the strategy change, he avoided the question, instead responding, “Well, it certainly is not a question of lack of will.”
Then he gave an answer that led most analysts to believe we are running low, stating, “We will produce and deliver these highly effective capabilities over the course of the coming months — and in some cases years — even as we continue to meet Ukraine’s most pressing self-defense requirements in real-time.”
Mark Cancian, a senior adviser at the Center for Strategic & International Studies, stated, “There are some areas where we’re basically at the bottom of the barrel.”
He continued, “It confirmed what I believe, that we will continue support Ukraine, but we’re going to have to do it in different ways, like providing substitutes, or we might have to buy stuff from other people, or it will take longer.
“That it won’t be quite the same.”
Biden has already committed to supporting Ukraine “for as long as it takes,” which apparently includes to the point of putting our own country at risk.
