Here it comes. The Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin put about 2,000 of our troops on a “be ready to deploy” status this past weekend. The forces can be deployed within 24 hours of receiving the order. A special ops Marine Corp unit had been deployed just a few days prior. This is more for Israel’s defense than for the USS Ford and USS Eisenhower currently in the Mediterranean. There will likely be more.
More forces will be sent
The USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group arrived in the Mediterranean to “deter any actor seeking to escalate the situation or widen this war.” The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower left Virginia on Friday.
Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh was asked about the report, “I don’t have more to provide at this time. I might be able to give you more details later, but at this time, I just don’t have anything more specific to add.”
Forces for medical support
There a lot more troops in the Middle East and Europe currently to the tune of tens of thousands. It is unknown how many will go to Israel.
Never fear though. The administration said this was being done to “advise and provide medical support” to Israel’s forces. Don’t believe it for a minute. Our involvement in foreign wars starts like this. Vietnam is a prime example.
Forces for rescue
Some Americans maybe rescued with this action. National Security Council spokesman John Kirby refused to rule this out. A week ago Hamas launched a huge surprise attack on Israel, firing over 5,000 missiles into the area while kidnapping, torturing and slaughtering innocent civilians.
This assault came just weeks after President Biden sent $6 billion to Iran. According to the report. These forces aren’t supposed to do too much. “They aren’t intended to serve in a combat role, the officials said. No infantry have been put on prepare-to-deploy order.” Singh said there were already personnel assisting with hostage efforts,
“On hostage recovery, as you’ve heard us say, we’re providing planning and intelligence support to Israel, which is in the lead. We do not have — we do have a small number of personnel in Israel in support of this effort, as augmentation to the embassy staff. I characterize it as an advise and assist role. They are there to help support and provide intelligence to the Israeli Defense Force, when it comes to hostage recovery. I wouldn’t get into more details, other than that, but it is really to advise and assist.”
