The big news of the week was Donald Trump announcing his candidacy for the 2024 election.
The timing was questionable considering we still have midterm races that have not yet been called.
There were quite a few pundits that put a stipulation on Trump announcing early and based on this latest polling, it would appear that their message hit home.
The Big Switch
This is one poll, so I don’t want to get ahead of myself here, but I am looking at the trend.
Only about two weeks ago, Donald Trump touted a 50-point lead against DeSantis during a PA rally.
On Tuesday, a Politico/Morning Consult poll had that lead down to 14 points.
Wednesday, an Economist/YouGov poll was released that had DeSantis in the lead by 14 points…

It is not the number so much as it is the trend.
Trump is headed in the wrong direction and DeSantis is clearly trending in the right one.
There is another worry…
If DeSantis does run and beat Trump, does Trump set fire to the party or does he get behind DeSantis?
I don’t see Trump playing nice if he loses, and that is a problem if he takes his base and sits out the election.
This is very much a question that Trump needs to be asked and answer ASAP before we move forward in this cycle.
