Now some Biden officials are criticizing the FBI raid. The backfire created the exact situation they were hoping to avoid. Three rooms in particular were targeted, a bedroom, an office and a storage room. The information used to get the warrant was sketchy. The confidential document revealed the paperwork and where it was. Officials waited til Trump was out of state to execute to keep things low key.
Agents were there the whole day but dressed in plain clothes, leading staff to believe they were secret service so the warrant wasn’t leaked. A DOJ official spoke to Newsweek.
“What a spectacular backfire. I know that there is much speculation out there that this is political persecution, but it is really the best and the worst of the bureaucracy in action. They wanted to punctuate the fact that this was a routine law enforcement action, stripped of any political overtones, and yet [they] got exactly the opposite.”
Another official said the FBI “created the very firestorm they sought to avoid.” The fallout was ignored,
The First Lady’s personal belongings were fair game as well and were poked through. DOJ lawyers who were present during the raid told Trump representatives that the warrant gave them access to everything.
The backfire will drive people to Trump
Supposedly Trump’s lawyers weren’t allowed to observe the incident but that has yet to be confirmed. The search warrant was executed because it was believed Trump had sensitive documents from the National Archives that needed retrieving.
Federal prosecutors had done a grand jury investigation last May over whether Trump had taken classified information from the National Archives. Usually federal authorities will do these investigations to see if the material was compromised so steps could be taken to protect sensitive content. Trump said,
“These are dark times for our Nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents. After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate. They even broke into my safe! It is political targeting at the highest level!”
