Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) appeared on the daytime talk show The View and defended Republicans’ record on race issues.
He also slammed the hosts for voicing “disgusting” rhetoric about black children in America.
During his appearance, he regularly faced interruptions from the four co-hosts who were eager to challenge him and highlighted how they cut to commercial breaks any time he made a good point.

Joy Behar had previously claimed that Scott wouldn’t be a Republican if he truly understood race issues in the U.S., so it was no surprise when she wasn’t at The View table during his visit.
This didn’t stop him from responding to her comments, however, and speaking out against what he felt was an offensive message being sent to African American kids – that their only way of success is by being an exception rather than following the rule.

The 2024 presidential candidate wanted to share his message that it doesn’t have to be this way – that there are many people of color succeeding in power today like former President Barack Obama and current Vice President Kamala Harris – showing that yesterday’s exceptions are now today’s rule.
Even Whoopi Goldberg reprimanded the audience for booing at Scott for expressing his beliefs regarding teaching gender identity and sexual orientation in schools, reminding them that they could not boo people on The View.
This highlights why Scott went on air – not just to respond back to Joy Behar but also make clear his mission – which is proving through examples of successful African Americans around him today, as well as throughout history, that everyone has a place at the table regardless of skin color or political party affiliation.
It’s about having faith in yourself and pushing through obstacles even when you feel like you don’t belong because ultimately you do belong here.
