Recently, Kevin McCarthy was ousted from his position as house speaker and as a result, rumored surfaced that he would soon be stepping down from his congressional seat. Now, he has come forward to cast aside those rumors, stating he has no plans to resign.
In a conversation with Bret Baier, McCarthy firmly stated that he was not leaving after Politico reported on two people familiar with the matter who suggested he might be contemplating a departure.
McCarthy had a tumultuous and brief time as House Speaker. After experiencing an historic election which saw him gain gavel, McCarthy faced an unprecedented motion to vacate.
Reportedly at a closed-door meeting with fellow Republican members, McCarthy spoke of his potential plan to return to California saying “I’m going to spend time with my family…I might have been given a bad break, but I’m still the luckiest man alive.”

In spite of controversy surrounding the former GOP leader, some Republicans are still clamoring for him to run for speaker again.
Moreover, when addressing fellow party members about his plans to resign, he assured them that he would remain involved in supporting the caucus if he were indeed to follow up on his intentions: “I’ll do anything I can to help almost all of you…Don’t worry; I’ve raised a helluva lot of money in the last hour.”
The motion to vacate was unprecedented and is sure to leave its mark on history. As such it serves as both reminder and warning sign for future leaders within the Republican Party – one must be prepared and ready for any situation they may find themselves facing.
Whether or not this means better organization or more efficient communication remains unclear but it is certain that McCarthy’s downfall will continue long after his removal as Speaker has passed into memory.
