Well, well, well…
It would appear that Fox News made Chris Wallace, not the other way around.
After seeing the ratings for his newest CNN show, it seems pretty clear that it may be time for Wallace to turn off that microphone and enjoy retirement.
Nobody Watching
If Wallace was going to be able to draw a diverse audience, this was the shot to do it.
He interviewed singer Shania Twain, but a mere 401,000 viewers turned into the premier of “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace.”
That is down a whopping 29 percent from the average numbers in that time slot this year.
In terms of the key 25 to 54 demographic, only 44,000 were watching.
The show is also airing on HBO Max, which is how the network spun the low ratings.
A source stated, “Live domestic TV viewers represent only a fraction of its intended audience.”
Wallace seems to be trying to get away from politics, at least for a minute, with a slew of entertainment and sports stars in the initial lineup.
To give you an idea of just how poorly Wallace did, Trey Gowdy, the former congressman from South Carolina, drew 1.3 million with his Sunday night show on Fox News.
To think that someone as prominent and polished as Wallace would be lapped twice by Gowdy should be a wake-up call for CNN to cut its losses now rather than pay that big contract that is clearly not generating very much income for them.
