Why do I feel like Americans in Russia are about to see how Americans in Afghanistan felt last August?
Americans with dual citizenship in Russia have been told by our embassy to get out of dodge.
Now, that makes sense.
The scary aspect of this is that the administration seems to be offering little if any help to get them out.
Drop the Hammer
The concern here is that Russia will not recognize their status and decide to draft them into service.
The embassy stated, “Russia may refuse to acknowledge dual nationals’ U.S. citizenship, deny their access to U.S. consular assistance, prevent their departure from Russia, and conscript dual nationals for military service.”
The statement continued, “Those residing or traveling in Russia should depart Russia immediately while limited commercial travel options remain.”
I cannot help but wonder why Biden has not made it clear to Putin that holding any American citizen beyond their will is unacceptable.
Why not work a deal to send some aircraft there immediately to evacuate them from the area?
Instead, they are all left on their own, but why would we expect anything different from this administration?
After abandoning more than 1,000 Americans behind enemy lines in Afghanistan, nothing is a surprise.
