Caligula once had his legions collect seashells and haul them back to Rome to show the people that he had defeated Neptune himself. When he did this and when he made his horse a senator the people knew that he was mad and so now we ask how they could possibly tolerate it all. Will history be any more charitable to the America of 2021, which makes men in dresses into admirals and demands that the public accept it as a perfectly sane and normal development?
American history gets absurd
Dr. Rachel Levine has been made the first four-star officer in the uniformed services who doesn’t know whether he is a man or a woman.
The new four-star admiral is being lauded as the first female to hold that position in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Caligula would blush.
No moment in human history can match the present in absurdity and as a specimen of collective insanity for future generations to pick through in disgust.
We all instinctively know what Dr. Rachel Levine is and yet the entire leadership class of this country and most of our population pretends that these delusions are realities.
Rachel Levine was sworn in just as news emerged that China had tested nuclear-capable missile technology which is far in advance of what U.S. intelligence believed they were capable of developing.
In place of one mad emperor we find ourselves with an entire society which has chosen to embrace the sorts of insanities which are exemplified by Dr. Levine and by this moment in time.
Not a serious country
Are there any moments in American history which could come close to matching this in absurdity? It has become commonplace to point out that the rest of the world must be laughing at us but there is truly no avoiding it.
The United States has ceased to be a serious country. Our role on the global stage now is that of a revolving freak show which trots out some new insanity each day and insists that the rest of the world share our enthusiasm for it.
How can we be shocked that the Taliban won in Afghanistan when they and we and anyone else who’s paying attention can see the things our leaders put in uniforms and promote?
Antiquated and backwards cultures would send Dr. Levine to an institution; as a progressive and advanced society we put him in charge of our health.
Telling Caligula that his war with the sea god is a product of his insane imagination might get us into trouble. Easier to just use the pronouns he prefers and applaud politely.
History tends to not look kindly on ages in which people choose to capitulate to things which anyone can recognize as untruths.
