According to former South Carolina Representative Trey Gowdy, Joe Biden’s quest for “unity” needs to start with New York.
If Biden wants “unity,” he needs to start by holding members of his own party accountable for their actions.
“Biden says he wants to unify the country and be the president for everyone. How about just start with people who died in nursing homes and their families in New York?” Gowdy said in an interview with Fox News’ Special Report on February 12.
Cuomo Death Toll
To any sane, rational person, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s directive at the start of the COVID pandemic is indefensible. Ordering the transfer of COVID-infected patients into nursing homes is the opposite of ‘protecting the vulnerable.’
A senior aide to the Cuomo administration has released a report which shows that the governor and his team purposely hid COVID death data, fearing that it would be used against them by the Justice Department. Newly released information shows that Cuomo’s policy resulted in significantly more death than was previously reported.
According to USA Today, the “true death toll of New York nursing home residents is around 13,000 people, as opposed to the state’s 8,677 figure.”
Advice from Gowdy
Reaching out to the most vulnerable people would be a good start to the “big task” of unifying the country, according to Trey Gowdy. Biden needs to seek justice for Governor Cuomo’s elderly victims.
“Just start with the people who died in nursing homes in New York, Mr. President,” Gowdy said.
Fox News contributor Mollie Hemingway added to Gowdy’s point, stating that Cuomo’s “very bad policy decisions” in regards to the coronavirus were celebrated by the mainstream media.
“This is really scandalous behavior, and it’s worth remembering that the media did praise him, giving him awards and putting him out there as one of the best governors for handling this. They should’ve been more critical as were many people in conservative media,” Hemingway said.
If the media is able to get away with celebrating Cuomo’s actions, despite having knowledge of the harm his directive caused, it seems that there is no hope that Cuomo will ever face consequences for his actions. Being a Democrat in the United States means never having to own up to your failures, as the party will cover them up, and the media will refuse to report on them. If Joe Biden wants unity, he should prove that statement wrong.
