Controversial Official Won’t Go Quietly

Justice Department official Jeffrey Berman is going to leave claw marks on the door frames as they finally drag him away from his office. The U.S. attorney can’t step aside quietly and professionally. No, he’s going out the door kicking and screaming. The Deep State really wants him to finish the cases he’s working on, like the death of Jeffrey Epstein. Somebody else might actually find a crime there and fail to find the others that the deep state is trying to cobble together.

Official caught in fast-escalating crisis

When CNN calls something a fast-escalating crisis, you can bet the Deep State feels threatened by something President Donald Trump has done. This time, Attorney General William Barr tried to give Geoffrey Berman the axe. The federal attorney for the infamous Southern District of New York pulled some strings and decided to dig in his heels. He’s not going.

An hour after AG Barr announced it was official that Berman would be cleaning out his desk, Berman “defied him by refusing to step down.” He wrote what CNN calls “an extraordinary statement.” He claims he heard about his termination on the news. “I have not resigned, and have no intention of resigning, my position, to which I was appointed by the Judges of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. I will step down when a providentially appointed nominee is confirmed by the Senate.”

Sticking his tongue out only prolongs the agony. It won’t take long for the Senate to chase him out. Jay Clayton, the chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission has already been named as the Deep State operative’s replacement.

Offered other positions

Berman wasn’t thrown directly out onto the street. The Justice Department wanted to shift him over to the civil division to fill the vacancy left by assistant AG Jody Hunt. When he turned that down, he “was asked to resign and refused.” Berman showed up personally in his office on Friday to ask him to go.

The justice official isn’t saying much. He told reporters when he showed up at his Manhattan office Saturday morning, “I issued a statement last night, I have nothing to add to that this morning. I’m just here to do my job.”

Contrary to liberal propaganda, this isn’t a fresh decision. Berman has been angering the president since the summer of 2018.
